Chic White Dessert Table

Today’s post is a fabulous white dessert table brought to us by Natalie over at Chic Sweets.  This all white dessert buffet is full of both sparkle and fantasy.  Perfect for either a winter or bridal event, this layout is one I know you’re going to love.

White Dessert Table

There are so many details to love about this table!  From the white paper cranes hanging in the birch branch centerpiece to the marshmallow pop tower.  Personalized cookies by the Gumdrop Cookie Shop are perfectly paired with their very own shot of milk.  I love this trend because no one can resist milk and cookies!  The gorgeous all white fondant cake was designed by Sweetie Pies Cakes and is the perfect centerpiece.

A special thanks to Limelight Photography for their stunning images and to Natalie at Chic Sweets for sharing this lovely event with us.  Be sure to check out more gourmet candy and dessert buffets on the Chic Sweets website and blog.

Snowman Inspired Cakes
January 5th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 7 Comments

It’s cold here.  It’s cold there.  Everywhere it’s cold cold.  So instead of whining about it like I usually do, today I’m going to embrace the cold.  Well, not literally.  I’m inside, bundled up in TWO sweaters, resisting the urge to turn on the gas fireplace.

And considering much of the country will receive some snow as a bonus gift with the arctic temps, let’s take a look at the happy side of winter weather.  The all telling sign that school is out and the kids are at play… snowmen!  Here are a few of my favorite snowman inspired treats.
Snowman Cakes

{clockwise, starting at top left:}
  • These Winter Wonderland cookies from Eleni’s are almost too cute to eat.  Snowmen, mittens and sleds without the frostbite!
  • Frosty the Snowman cake pops by Bakerella are so whimsical and fun, it’s hard to believe they are just a little ball of cake inside.  Bakerella never ceases to amaze me.
  • I love this fondant snowman who stands “King of the Mountain’ atop a wintry cupcake tower.   This delightful little guy is the creation of AbbieTabbie.
  • More adorable snowman cookies from Eleni’s, only these have brightly colored scarves and matching ice skates!
  • This charming snowman cake, complete with a pink and orange stocking cap and matching bow-tie,  is the creation of The Cake Corner.  The detail work on the cap is wonderfully realistic.
  • And lastly, this 3D snowman cake by the Cake Girls just screams modern whimsy.  Simply flawless. LOVE it!

Now, this post is in no way meant to inspire you to go out and make an actual snowman.  It’s cold out there!  But if you do, bundle up and stay warm.  As for me, I’ll be by the fire with some hot cocoa.

Merry Christmas
December 25th, 2009 by Carrie Sellman | 10 Comments

Merry Christmas!  May you have a wonderful holiday season filled with family, friends, laughter and an abundance of sweet treats.
Modern Christmas Cake

Since it is Christmas, I thought I’d share a cake design of my own today.  This three tiered grey and red design features light grey buttercream with fondant dots, a modern Christmas tree and is topped with an oversize red bow.  Inside, each layer was a different flavor to include French Vanilla cake with Raspberry Puree, Dark Chocolate cake with Espresso Buttercream and Chocolate Ganache, and finally my favorite, Chocolate Chip cake with Vanilla Buttercream.  Delish!

Wishing you a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Let it Snow!
December 2nd, 2009 by Carrie Sellman | 3 Comments

This winter has been pretty mild here in Illinois, so far anyway. The weather forecasters are calling for snow today, but I’m not sure if I believe them.  They’ve cried wolf a few times before.  Ironically though, my old hometown of Dallas is getting a little taste of winter with snow falling this morning.  So hats off to you in Dallas, enjoy!  (Or more like, hats ON.  As in your warm woolly winter hats!)  I’m just glad I haven’t had to shovel the driveway yet this season.

And since we’re chatting about snow, let’s look at some gorgeous snow inspired cake designs!
Snowflake Cakes

{clockwise, starting at top left:}
  • Kate Sullivan of LovinSullivanCakes is the artist behind this all white wintery scene.   White chocolate pinecones and sugar-covered floral wire create the snowy embellishment on the top tier.
  • This cake by Rebecca Thuss is sophisticated and elegant.  The tree trunk stand sets the stage for the simplistic winter branches and snow birds.
  • The cake geniuses over at Martha Stewart designed this cascading snowflake cake.  Snowflakes made from royal icing are petite at the top and grow larger towards the bottom, to create an illusion of falling snow.
  • The last stunning snowflake cake is by Truli Confectionery Arts.   Grouping the sugar snowflakes in the front of the cake creates such a dramatic presentation.  Each snowflake is painted with platinum gold luster, to give it a subtle glimmer.  Just lovely!

Hope you enjoyed these wonderful winter cakes!  Be sure to check back tomorrow for a great new giveaway!!
