Real Party: Purple & Black Wedding
February 19th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 2 Comments

Purple is such a hot color right now.  Everywhere I look, purple is in.  So when I saw this gorgeous wedding, I knew it was one to feature.  With stunning images from the talented Jennifer Skog and and a spectacular design from Jen’s Cakes, how can you go wrong?
Purple and Black Wedding

Purple and Black Wedding

This whole wedding screams modern elegance.  I love the purple with black accents, especially on the stationary and of course, the cake!  The black scrollwork is offset perfectly by the purple sugar flowers… beautifully done Jen!

A special thank you to Jennifer Skog for her amazing photography, and the stellar vendors who created such a lovely event including Nicole Ha Floral Design, Cards de Luxe Stationary, and Jen’s Cakes.

Happy Friday everyone!  See you back here next week when we announce the newest addition to our Top Tier Directory.  You’re going to love these cakes!  I’ve been watching this vendor for some time now… she’s from my old home town and just recently competed in her first Food Network Challenge.  Any ideas of who it could be?  Check back on Monday to find out!

Real Party: Chocolate Brown & Green Wedding
January 21st, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 4 Comments

Today’s real party is a simply elegant wedding, shared with us by the amazing photographer Tanja Lippert.  We’ve featured Tanja’s work before and what can I say other than her images are breathtaking.  This wedding included so many quaint little details…it’s enough to make a girl giddy!  From the chocolate brown and green color scheme to the delightful birds and fern fronds, this wedding is truly a wooded wonderland. Brown and Green Wedding

I absolutely love this cake!  The green fondant creates a stage for the branches and sweet little birds.  Using a tree trunk for the cake stand provides both style and function.  This design was originally created by Rebecca Thuss as an all white, wintry cake (we featured Rebecca’s version here).  Adding the green transforms this design, making it perfect for a spring event.

What’s not to love about this wedding?  The bride, the flowers, the cake…. the branches, birds and ferns.  Everything was just stunning!  A very special thank you to Emily and Patrick for sharing their special day with us and to Tanja Lippert for sharing her amazing images.  See more of Tanja’s incredible work on her website and blog.

Real Party: Turquoise & Red Wedding
January 13th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 4 Comments

Today’s posts features a ‘real wedding’ of sorts. Each year Nicole Ha Designs and Amazae Special Events host a wedding design showcase known as Una Bella Sera.  This annual showcase brings together some of the top professionals in the wedding industry to create an evening filled with the latest trends, tabletop designs, flowers and food.   The 2009 event featured seven different themes based on the seven continents.

Today we’re taking a look at some of the gorgeous details, captured in these stunning images by the talented photographer Tanja Lippert.  I just love the chocolate brown offset with the turquoise and red accents.  This is such a hot color combination right now and I love how it all came together.

Turquoise & Red Wedding

Chocolate and Cigar Bar

From the red roses to the turquoise beads, this layout is both playful and unique.  The chocolate and cigar bar provides two indulgences that fit in perfectly with the rest of the decor.  The mouthwatering food was whipped up by Thomas John Events.

And what can I possibly say about that cake except LOVE IT!  The mixture of short and tall tiers play nicely with the delicate coral pattern.  The use of color is perfectly balanced by the white background, providing a little pop of color without over doing it.  This edible work of art was created by I Dream of Cake, one of our Top Tier cake designers.

A very special thanks to Tanja Lippert Photography, Nicole Ha Designs and Amazae Special Events for sharing this lovely event with us.  Be sure to watch for Una Bella Sera 2010!

Real Wedding: Sweet Treats Galore (Part II)
January 6th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 8 Comments

We’re back with Part II of an amazingly charming ‘Sweets and Treats’ wedding.  If you missed Part I, check it out here.  I’m still deciding which aspect of this wedding I LOVE the most.  I think I’ve narrowed it down to one thing.  Joy!  Weddings should be fun, happy and joyous.  Everything about this wedding screams fun, especially the turtle wedding cake.

Yes, you read that right.  A turtle wedding cake.  Not just any turtle.  A beautifully sculpted, masterfully detailed turtle holding a giant cupcake!  You know Rick and Sasha Reichart, the geniuses behind cakelava, had to wonder about a such a request.  But this wedding needed a fabulous cake and that is just what cakelava created.
Cupcake Themed Wedding

Am I right about the turtle?  Could he be any more adorable?  He is licking his lips in anticipation of that cupcake!  Really, I just LOVE it!  Well done Rick!

Cupcake Themed Wedding

Here is a little of what cakelava had to say about Janelle and Alex’s sweet treats wedding:

“We knew we were in for a real “treat” when Janelle contacted us last year requesting a cartoon turtle hugging a cupcake for her wedding cake. We thought at first – we won’t lie – “That’s an odd request”, but quickly realized as the rest of hers and Alex’s wedding details came together that it was an absolutely perfect cake for their wedding! The couple LOVES their sweets, especially Janelle, and the theme of the wedding revolved around sweets and treats of the edible variety. How much do they love sweets? Let’s count the ways … The wedding cake was a sculpted turtle hugging a giant cupcake. We made giant sculpted cupcakes to be placed on some of the guest tables, and the other tables had baking related centerpieces, such as a bowl filled with small marshmallows, Sprinkles cupcake mix, a giant spoon, etc. Janelle and Alex provided a large candy buffet for their guests, filled with giant lollipops, licorice, salt water taffy, and many other goodies. The motif of the wedding was a cupcake which was found throughout the reception area. The pinata (yes, this wedding had a pinata) was a cupcake for the women and a liquor bottle for the men. This is just the sweets.”

Events like this make me smile!  What we see in a handful of images took months of planning and dedication by talented vendors including Emi Ink, Weddings by Grace & MonaGinniberries, Showtime DJ’s, Spinning Web Florist, and of course, cakelava. A special thanks to Janelle and Alex, cakelava and Stephen Ludwig Photography.

Tell us.  What do you LOVE the most about this wedding?
