Real Party: Tiffany Blue and Brown Shower
March 2nd, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 9 Comments

Happy Tuesday everyone!  It’s nice to be back after a long weekend – a weekend full of bridal bliss for my little sister Ashley.  I was fortunate enough to make the trek down to Dallas to celebrate my sister’s upcoming wedding with family and friends.  Visits home are always too short and we try to pack in too many things, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  A bridal shower during the day, bachelorette party that night… we were crazy busy but had oodles of fun!

If you saw the sneak peak I posted last week, you already know that the shower was Tiffany Blue and Chocolate Brown with little hints of turquoise and green.  Let’s take a look…
Tiffany Blue and Brown Bridal Shower

I’m really infatuated with paper pom poms, so we lined the ceiling with Tiffany Blue ones.  A large white ‘B’ welcomed guests at the front door.  We also used a ‘B’ monogram throughout the shower on things such as the food tags, favors, and name tags.  The shower invitation was used to create a sign-in sheet that doubles as a nice keepsake for the bride.  For the favors, my older sis baked chocolate chip cookies (the bride’s fav) and bagged them up, attaching a turquoise ribbon and tag.

We played two shower games including “How Well Do You Know the Bride” where everyone answered questions about Ashley.  To spice things up, we had the groom give us his answers ahead of time, so we could see how well he did!

Flower arrangements with white tulips, calla lilies and hyacinths adorned the food table.  The menu included Chicken Caesar Sandwiches, Spinach Dip, Cheese Straws,  cheese and fruit.  Drinks included lemonade, coffee, water and a sparkling white cranberry Prosecco punch.  For sweets, we had chocolate chip cookies, brownies and chocolate chip cupcakes topped with vanilla buttercream icing and drizzled with chocolate.

This shower wouldn’t have come together with out the help of my family (who are so sweet and put up with my craziness).  A special thank you to Sunny, Jenn and Sheila for all of their help making this day so special for Ashley.  And congrats to Ashley and Dustin!  We’re looking forward to the big day!

Chic White Dessert Table
February 9th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 3 Comments

Today’s post is a fabulous white dessert table brought to us by Natalie over at Chic Sweets.  This all white dessert buffet is full of both sparkle and fantasy.  Perfect for either a winter or bridal event, this layout is one I know you’re going to love.

White Dessert Table

There are so many details to love about this table!  From the white paper cranes hanging in the birch branch centerpiece to the marshmallow pop tower.  Personalized cookies by the Gumdrop Cookie Shop are perfectly paired with their very own shot of milk.  I love this trend because no one can resist milk and cookies!  The gorgeous all white fondant cake was designed by Sweetie Pies Cakes and is the perfect centerpiece.

A special thanks to Limelight Photography for their stunning images and to Natalie at Chic Sweets for sharing this lovely event with us.  Be sure to check out more gourmet candy and dessert buffets on the Chic Sweets website and blog.

Black & White Dessert Bar
December 14th, 2009 by Carrie Sellman | 8 Comments

Let’s kick those Monday Blues with a dazzling event that is sure to make you smile.  Today’s post features a sophisticated black and white dessert bar created for a press event hosted by Thi Cosmetics.  The ever talented photographer, Jennifer Skog, captured the glitz and glam of the evening in these brilliant images.

All of this gorgeousness is what happens when you put together so many talented vendors!  The creative styling of Gloria Wong Design came to life with  the help of Passiflora Designs, Enchanted Lighting and Jen’s Cakes.

Black & White Dessert Bar

I just love everything about this event.  From the black and white damask to the black cake stands adorned with crystal strands to the feathery flower arrangements.  It’s a feast for your eyes and then for your mouth.  The black and white palette is modern, elegant and appropriate for almost any occasion.  This entire layout would make one fabulous bridal shower or holiday party!

The cake, created by Jen’s Cakes, perfectly creates a focal point in the center of the table without over powering the other desserts.  The black detail work and white poppy flowers are beautifully done!  LOVE it!

A special thank you to Jennifer Skog (Skog as in Vogue) for sharing her remarkable photography with Half Baked.  You can see more of her inspiring work on her blog.

I Want to Feature…. YOUR Party!
February 23rd, 2009 by Carrie Sellman | No Comments

That’s right, I’m spicing things up a little with a new feature called ‘Real Parties’. This covers everything from birthday parties to baby showers, bridals showers, baptisms, anniversaries, holidays, and of course weddings! The type of events that will be showcased are those with that extra little something… the ones where your guests are swooning over how clever you are – Miss Hostess! The event where you’ve either found the perfect item or better yet, made the perfect item that is truly a show stopper. This is not about your party budget… I’d love to feature both small and intimate gatherings as well as large, over the top bashes. More importantly, I’m looking for creative and clever… chic and modern.

If this sounds like your party, please submit your photos to me for consideration. Tell me about everything… the invitations, the decorations, food, favors and cake. Your party just may be featured on Half Baked!

**Please Note: Before submitting photos, please make sure you have the proper authority to do so! If the photos are the work of a professional, please contact the photographer for approval and then provide me their information so I can give credit where credit is due! For all photos that include your friends and family, please make sure they approve of having their image on the web. By submitting your photos, I assume you have done your due diligence!

I look forward to seeing and sharing your outstanding parties! You can forward your photos and party details to carrie@thecakeblog.com
