Guest Post: Pea in a Pod Baby Shower
September 27th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 3 Comments

Hello Cake Blog readers!  While Carrie enjoys her precious new baby, the girls over at WhipperBerry thought we would show you one of our dessert tables.  We blog about all aspects of design, but specialize in photography, dessert tables and weddings.  We thought this Pea in the Pod table would be appropriate to share while babies are on the mind.  I designed this table for a dear friend and had such a great time putting it all together.  Dessert tables are a great way to take your party to the next level.

{Special thank you to the girls at WhipperBerry for the lovely guest post!  This is such a charming shower.  And how appropriate would it be for twins?!  Just adapt to “Two Peas in a Pod”.  Love it!  ~Carrie}

Real Party: Modern Garden Tea Party
September 7th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 3 Comments

Today’s Real Party is a simple and chic party created by Sharon Wee, the owner and talented cake designer behind Sharon Wee Creations in Sydney, Australia.  Sharon hosted this modern Garden Tea Party to welcome a friend’s new baby.  As you can see, it was an adorable display of both sweet and savory treats.

I love the soft color scheme which is obviously for a girl without being overwhelmingly pink.  The small garden touches including butterflies, ladybugs and bunnies are just too precious.  The spread included mini fetta and cherry tomato tarts and mini pizzas.  The sweets table featured an adorable cake surrounded by sunflower cupcakes, vanilla bean and caramel panna cotta, suckers, mint balls and a unique cookie tree.  Adorable, right?

A special thank you to Sharon for sharing this charming tea party with us.  Be sure to check out more of Sharon’s amazing cake creations on her website and the Wee Love Baking Blog.

Real Party: Black & White Baby Shower
August 17th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 12 Comments

By now you’ve probably heard the news that my husband and I are expecting our first child in September.  Over the weekend, our baby girl received yet another fabulous welcome via a couple’s baby shower.   A few weeks ago, I shared the pink and brown ladybug shower that my family hosted down in Houston.  This time my husband was included and we celebrated with our friends here in Central Illinois.  Two baby showers!  I know, we’re very lucky and honestly a little spoiled!  Check out this modern couple’s shower in black and white with purple accents, hosted by our good friends Ted & Meredith.Black & White Baby Shower

Black & White Baby Shower

Meredith chose a modern invitation by DwellStudio for Tiny Prints that was just perfect.  I love that it includes both a silhouette of the pregnant mom and the dad-to-be.  Now, if I just looked as cute as that silhouette!  Meredith incorporated the invitation design throughout the shower, creating a cohesive look without overwhelming the men with a typical ‘baby theme’.

Pops of purple created the perfect contrast to the black and white polka dots.  I love the idea of using a hurricane vase and filling it with diapers to create a centerpiece.  Such a modern twist on the traditional diaper cake.  We played “Guess That Baby Food” and guests went home with an adorable and unique favor – hand soap labeled with our baby’s due date.  Meredith also sent me home with matching note cards, keeping my thank you cards in theme.

We could not thank Ted and Meredith enough for hosting such a lovely shower.  It was a wonderful way to celebrate with friends and welcome our little girl!
