Fabulous Hostess Aprons
March 2nd, 2012 by Carrie Sellman | 10 Comments

It’s Friday!  And I think it’s time for us to have some fun and go shopping together.  Window shopping that is!  A few Fridays ago, we went window shopping for cake stands.  Based on your response to that post, I think we should spend every Friday shopping together!  Are you in?

Today we’re on the hunt for another one of my favorite things… aprons!!  Presentation is key when it comes to food and baking, but it’s equally important for the woman behind the whisk to look good.  With all the sifting and whipping,  it can be a challenge to keep your party dress clean!  So let’s take a look at some of my favorite aprons right now.  From super sophisticated to vintage chic, these Fabulous Hostess Aprons might actually be prettier than your party dress!!

Find: Felt Heart Ornaments
January 4th, 2012 by Carrie Sellman | 7 Comments

I know everyone is still recovering from the holidays.  And I promise that I’m not about to start with the Valentine’s posts already.  But if you can just wrap your head around the next holiday for one quick moment…  Now’s the time to hit the Christmas Clearance section at Target and grab some of these cute felt ornaments, before they’re gone!  At 70% off, they come out to be 10 cents a piece!  Easily re-purposed for Valentine’s Day…. these felt hearts are a cheap, easy and quick Valentine’s decoration.  Yay for Felt Heart Ornaments!

Valentine's Felt Heart Garland DIY

At 10 cents a heart, the uses for these felt cuties are limitless!  Of course you could use them as sold, but I snipped off the gold ornament tie and added my own white string.  A plaid, striped or polka dot ribbon would be adorable as well!

Valentine's Felt Heart DIY

I’m sure you’ll come up with additional uses, but here’s a few of my ideas for these adorable felt hearts:

  • Tie on to your baked goods for Valentine’s treats
  • Tape onto envelopes for hand-delivered Valentine’s cards
  • Decorate Valentine’s boxes for school
  • Center on a plate for an easy Valentine’s place setting
  • Create a row down the center of your table for a heart table runner
  • String many hearts together to create a heart garland
  • Hang several strings of several hearts together to create a mobile

There were oodles of them still at my Target yesterday, but the Christmas Clearance is going fast!  I spotted them in red, white, lime green, bright turquoise and purple.  If you snag some, be sure to come back and show us what you create with them.  Happy Shopping!

Fab Find: Turntable Cake Stand
August 31st, 2011 by Carrie Sellman | 3 Comments

I’ve got two turntables and a microphone…  Where It’s At!  I’ve got two turntables and a microphone…

I can’t help it.  I know I’m dating myself.  But this old Beck song has been stuck in my head for days, ever since I received an email from the creator of today’s Fab Find.  Made from recycled vintage turntables and audio speaker parts, these cake pedestals are sleek and modern with beautiful lines.  Not to mention pure genius!!  These one-of-a-kind treasures would take centerstage at any event but are especially perfect for a retro theme.  A 70’s disco, an 80’s Prom Shower, a Rock Star Birthday… I could go on!  Whatever the event, your guests would certainly be talking about these Vintage Turntable Cake Pedestals by JT Baldwin.  They might even be inspired to sing!

It’s genius, right?  Honestly, I’ve seen so many cake stands but nothing like this before!  The turntable platter, rubber mat, record spindle, speaker magnets, woofer and tweeter come together in such a natural way.  It seems as though they were meant to form a cake pedestal!  For the icing on the cake, gutted speaker wire trims the bottom to protect your furniture.

Can you imagine serving up your cupcakes and treats on this two-tiered dessert stand?  The best part…. the top platter spins!

JT Baldwin is rescuing vintage audio and photography equipment and paying homage to the past.  With an image in mind, a hammer in hand, and a full supply of used screws and bolts sorted in Ziploc bags, she is creating some of the most clever and unique products.  Be sure to check out the cake pedestals, dessert stands, ottoman trays and more at the JT Baldwin Etsy Shop!

For those of you too young to get my “two turntables and a microphone” song reference, here’s a LINK….. That was a good drum break!
