Natalie Cole’s Birthday Cake
February 8th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 2 Comments

We’re starting off this week with a sweet treat from Lauri Ditunno and her team at Cake Alchemy.  You’re probably already familiar with Lauri’s fabulous work, which is showcased on the WEtv series, Amazing  Wedding Cakes.  A talented cake designer, Lauri loves bold designs and isn’t afraid of a challenge…. which is why we love her!  And today we’re thrilled to feature one of her most recent designs.

Natalie Cole celebrated her 60th birthday last Thursday night and Cake Alchemy created a stunning cake perfect for the Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and performer.  Let’s take a peak!
Music Themed Birthday Cake

This cake is sophisticated and classic yet fun and whimsical.   Perfect for a music icon, each tier represented a decade of Natalie Cole’s music.  On top is a sculpted figurine of the birthday girl, perfect down to the tiny details of her skirt!

A very special thanks to Lauri and the other ladies at Cake Alchemy for sharing this amazing cake with us!  We look forward to featuring more of your beautiful work in the future!  And a Happy Birthday to Natalie Cole!

Real Party: Navy & Green Pinwheel Birthday
January 25th, 2010 by Carrie Sellman | 4 Comments

Today’s real party is an adorable pinwheel themed birthday created by Sharnel, a mom, blogger and owner of The Cupcake Company in Brisbane, Australia.  This delightfully sweet event was created for her son’s 4th birthday.  Full of navy and green pinwheels, you’re going to spin over this dessert buffet.  Take a look!

If there’s one thing that all great parties have in common, it’s the attention to detail.  Looks like Sharnel has got that recipe down pat!  From the caramel popcorn to the pinwheel cookies and cake, this party is too perfect.

Be sure to stop by Sharnel’s blog, My Life – My Loves, for the scoop on how to replicate this charming event.  A special thanks to Sharnel for the fabulous inspiration!

Hang Ten Surfing Cake
June 5th, 2009 by Carrie Sellman | 3 Comments

If you missed my last post, I’m extremely excited about summer! Even though I’m miles away from the ocean… the beach bum in me loves this next design.

Surf Cake

‘Hang Ten’ was created based on a Pottery Barn Kids party collection. This two tiered design features light blue buttercream icing and blue fondant waves on the bottom tier. We added the polka dots on the waves to give it a more modern feel. The top tier is a tan buttercream accented with fondant surfboards. Graham cracker sand borders are the finishing touch!

Even though this design was for a first birthday, I think it would be appropriate for any surfer or beach themed party.

A summertime cupcake design to come later today!
